Panel Construction & Finish
Each EFX panel uses aircraft-grade aluminum alloy formed into a double-ribbed structure. We run every panel through a multi-stage powder-coat process that bonds matte black finish directly to the metal, creating a surface that resists chips from gravel and won’t chalk or fade under constant sun exposure.
The hinge assembly connecting the three panels uses stainless steel pins and sealed bearings. This lets each panel swing independently without metal-on-metal grinding, and the sealed bearing design keeps road salt and mud out of the pivot points. Panel edges overlap by a full inch when closed, and the interlocking design maintains alignment even when the cover takes impacts from cargo shifting during off-road driving.
Installation & Mounting System
The EFX clamps directly to your factory bed rails using our dual-action grip system. Each clamp has an upper jaw that hooks the rail lip and a lower compression pad that spreads clamping force across a 3-inch contact zone. You may need to adjust the clamp position slightly during installation to ensure the cover sits level.
Absolutely. You can open just the rear panel for quick access near the tailgate, or fold back the rear and middle panels to reach cargo mid-bed while keeping the front panel closed. Each panel operates independently and the gas struts hold each one in the upright position until you’re ready to close it.
The cover is rated for 500 pounds of evenly distributed weight. That means you can stack gear on top or load a roof-mounted cargo basket that extends over the bed, as long as the weight spreads across all three panels. Concentrated point loads like standing on a single panel are not recommended and can damage the aluminum.
It depends on your hitch design. The EFX folds completely back toward the cab, so most gooseneck and fifth-wheel hitches will clear the folded panels. However, some bulky fifth-wheel setups may interfere with the front panel. No. When fully closed, the EFX sits flush with your bed rails and doesn’t extend into the bed space where a front-mounted toolbox would go. When opened, the front panel folds back and may rest against a toolbox depending on its height, but this won’t damage the cover or prevent it from operating. Adjust the clamp positions during install to leave clearance if needed.
Wash the panels with car wash soap and water every few weeks to remove road salt and debris. Avoid automatic car washes with spinning brushes that can scratch the powder-coat. Lubricate the hinge pins and latch mechanisms with silicone spray twice a year. Inspect the weather seals for cracks or compression damage annually and replace them if they lose elasticity. Avoid using harsh solvents or abrasive cleaners on the aluminum surface.
