We built the Recoil around powder-coated aluminum slats that lock every three inches as you pull the cover closed. The low-profile canister mounts flush against your bed rail, preserving clearance for fifth-wheel hitches and gooseneck trailers. When you’re hauling tall cargo, the slats retract into the canister in seconds — no tools, no loose parts to store in your garage.
The Recoil fits trucks with six-foot and eight-foot beds. We machine every bracket for a clamp-on installation that doesn’t require drilling into your bed rails. The weatherproof seal along the canister and side rails keeps water, dust, and road debris out of your cargo area, even at highway speeds.

Aluminum Slat Construction & Canister Design
We manufacture the Recoil slats from extruded aluminum with a UV-resistant powder coat that holds up under years of sun exposure. Each slat measures 1.5 inches wide and interlocks with the next, creating a rigid surface across your bed when the cover is closed.
The canister housing uses the same powder-coated aluminum as the slats. We seal the canister interior with a composite gasket that keeps moisture away from the retraction spring mechanism. The front edge of the canister sits 11 inches above your bed floor, which leaves enough clearance for most fifth-wheel pin boxes and gooseneck ball mounts when the cover is fully retracted.
Installation & Bed Rail Compatibility
Our clamp-on mounting system fits factory bed rails on most full-size trucks without drilling. You position the side rails along the top of your bed, then tighten the clamps with a socket wrench. The entire installation takes about 45 minutes with basic hand tools.
The Recoil works with spray-in bedliners, drop-in liners, and bare bed floors. If you have a spray-in liner that extends over the top of your bed rails, you’ll need to shim the clamps to level the side rails — we include plastic shim strips in the hardware kit. The clamps are machined aluminum with stainless steel fasteners, so they won’t rust or corrode over time.
Locking & Security Features
The Recoil includes a key-lock cylinder that mounts at the tailgate end of the cover. When you turn the key, a locking pin drops into the nearest slat channel, preventing the cover from being pulled open. The same key operates the lock on both driver and passenger sides if you order the dual-lock option.
We designed the lock housing to sit flush with the side rail, so it doesn’t interfere with tonneau cover accessories or tie-down anchors. The cylinder uses a six-tumbler design — the same lock core we use across our retractable cover lineup. If you lose a key, replacement blanks are available through our parts department with your original key code.

Yes, the Recoil works with most spray-in bedliners. If your liner extends over the top of your bed rails, you’ll use the included plastic shim strips to level the side rail clamps. The clamps are adjustable to accommodate liner thickness up to a quarter inch above the factory rail height.
The cover also fits drop-in liners and bare truck beds. The side rails sit on top of your bed rails, so the liner type doesn’t affect the mounting system.
The canister sits 11 inches above your bed floor when the Recoil is fully retracted. This leaves enough room for most fifth-wheel hitches and gooseneck ball mounts. The canister is 14 inches wide and runs the full width of your truck bed.
If you’re hauling cargo that needs to sit against the front of your bed, you’ll have about 11 inches of vertical space occupied by the canister. Measure your specific cargo or hitch before ordering if clearance is a concern.
Yes, you can open and close your tailgate whether the Recoil is fully extended, partially open, or fully retracted. The side rails stop about two inches short of your tailgate hinges, so there’s no interference.

We don’t recommend standing or walking on the cover, as concentrated weight in one spot can bend the aluminum slats. The cover is designed to secure cargo inside your bed, not to serve as a load platform.
